Phillip is a game audio specialist with experience working in most every area of game audio. Most recently he was working at Oxide Games as Senior Sound Designer on their game Ara: History Untold. On Ara, Phillip grew from a Junior quickly becoming responsible for large areas of the game including UI, Combat, and Environment audio. He helped create many of the audio systems from design through content creation, implementation, and final mix. Working with two other in house composers, Phillip managed several sound design contractors and interns stepping into managerial and production roles with ease.
Phillip also had a big hand in creating the soundtrack of Ara. After realizing we could not complete the soundtrack under budget and on time recording individual soloists, we pivoted to recording in-house as much as possible. This meant recording soloists and also recording many instruments ourselves. Being a violinist, Phillip picked up, learned, and recorded bowed string instruments from all over the world including Nyckelharpa, Kamanche, Morring Khuur, Yayli Tambur, Sarangi, and Hurdy Gurdy.
Just after launch, we were accepted to speak at Game Sound Con on the creation of this soundtrack.
Ara History Untold, Sept 2024 Release
Ara is a grand strategy game in the 4x genre focused on rewriting history in your vision. My primary roles on this project were Sound Design, Audio Systems Design, and Audio Implementation. However, I also did VO Production & Implementation, Music Production, Recording, and Performance.
Unannounced Project, Cancelled
On this unannounced project prototype I helped with sound design, music production, implementation, and systems design in a 3rd party game engine. After designing the systems we would use for implementation I did the implementation in-engine after creating some of the sound effects.
